New English Translations - Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
Q: "What will happen if/when the new English translations approved for the Order of the Mass are approved/confirmed by the Holy See?"
A: Presently, we are working on alternate wording for any potential changes in text. Rest assured, if and/or when any changes to text are confirmed, our Mass settings will follow the approved changes, and will sing beautifully without a snag. We will do the work for you in order to facilitate a smooth, seamless musical transition.
Q: "Will my church need to re-purchase these Mass settings, if the changes are are approved?"
A: No. If you purchase our Mass settings anytime prior to the possible approval of changes in text, you will have updates in your hands in a very short time, absolutely free of charge.
Q: "Will it be confusing to learn a Mass setting now, then have to relearn it a few years from now?"
A: No. If the change in text is approved, everyone will have to learn new text, regardless of whether it is spoken or sung. By learning the Mass settings now, you will already have the music in place. If and/or when the changes in text are approved, they are very slight and will require very little change.
Q: "Should I wait until the changes are approved before I purchase a new Mass setting?"
A: That is entirely up to you. You know your choir and congregation musically, better than anyone. If you like our Mass settings and are ready to introduce a new Mass setting to your congregation, then there is no reason to wait, especially considering that these changes may take several years to implement, even once they are approved. If you do decide to wait, however, we will still be here for you when that time comes.
Q: "When will the new English translations be implemented?"
A: Nobody is able to answer to that question with any certainty. With so many factors and steps involved, the new English translations could be implemented anywhere from late 2007 'til many years from now.
Q: "Will all of your Mass Setting pieces be able to be used as is after the new English translations are implemented?"
A: Most of the Mass Setting pieces in our Mass Settings will remain the same. The proposed changes will affect our arrangements of the "Gloria," and the "Holy." Proposed changes have been approved by the USCCB, and still need approval by the Holy See. As we have no way of knowing what the Holy See will approve, amend or reject, we can not tell you the "exact" changes as of yet. What we can tell you, is that for any traslation change that is approved, we will make the necessary adjustments to our existing music, FREE OF CHARGE to you.
We stand behind all of our music. We will not allow music that doesn't "sing well" to be passed on to you. Therefore, if, once the final English translations are made and approved, in the very unlikely case we feel the Gloria will not "sing" as beautifully as it presently does, we will create a new Gloria that is every bit as beautiful, and send it to you FREE OF CHARGE.
Q: "What can I do to prepare my parishioners for a smooth transition into the new English translations?"
A: Much of how your parishioners react will be in direct response to how you, (the Music Director and music ministry team) and your Pastor approach it. If you and the Pastor are matter-of-fact, and begin talking about it now, raising the awareness and reassuring your parishioners that the new changes are nothing to "panic" over, their response to the inevitable changes will be one of preparedness. Being that no change is easy, know that if your approach to the new English translations is an positive approach, one with confidence, understanding, caring, and patience, you and your parishioners will be able to transition much more easily.
